As a Pride Month special, we're teaming up with our pals at Queer Film Night for a special pop up at their screening of Before Stonewall (1984) by Robert Rosenberg & Greta Schiller. The event, on Tuesday 10th June 8pm, includes a screening, a bookstall by Lighthouse bookshop, and a discussion. Get your tickets here!

Thedocumentary which traces what queer life was like in the US before Stonewall. Before the politics of visibility were seen as a means to an end.

Through archives and interviews the film shows us what it was like before the victories of 1970s gay liberation. We want to look at this history to respond to our present. We are now seeing a retraction of rights in the world and it seems important to look at tactics of survival and joy from the past for generations who didn’t grow up with granted rights.

In the discussion we also want to propose to go beyond the politics of visibility and interrogate their relevance in different contexts. As shown to us by some of the films we screened and discussed with our guests, sometimes being loud and proud isn’t possible, efficient, and simply enough. So where do we go from now?

Come watch the film, take part in our discussion, and get a book! Tickets sales will be split between Camp Trans Scotland & Edinburgh Trans Femicide Prevention.

The film is captioned. The venue & bathrooms are wheelchair accessible. If you have any other access requirement, let us know and we will do our best to accommodate you.

Here's a sneak peek at some of the books we'll have featured on our table of goodies!
