Lighthouse Bookshop x Writers' Trust of Canada: Amplified Voices
Hannah
What makes a book Canadian? We all know Margaret Atwood and Anne Carson, but what of wider Canadian literature?
WT Amplified Voices from The Writers' Trust of Canada is a project that promotes published work of BIPOC or LGBTQ2S+ Canadian authors - showing the vast and varied scope of writing and perspectives being published today.
The books highlighted this year (and kindly sent to us) are:
- What I Know About You by Éric Chacour
- Prairie Edge by Connor Kerr
- Nowhere, Exactly by M.G Vassanji
- Code Noir by Canisia Lubrin
- Batshit Seven by Sheung-King
- Perfect Little Angels by Vincent Anioke
In 2025, the project is promoting works published in the last year by Writers' Trust of Canada honourees, jurors, and mentors who identify as BIPOC or LGBTQ2S+. You can also check out a list of previous years highlighted authors here.
Unfortunately (due to rights restrictions in the UK) we can’t source many of these - but we hope this will soon change! In the meantime, we’ve been inspired to craf an extended list that includes a range of great Canadian publishers (also featuring writers of colour, and queer authors) that we love having on our shelves, including titles from ECW Press, Fernwood, Arsenal Pulp Press, and Radical Bookshop.
