Heartbreak, resilience and non-human connections with Fatima Bhutto

We’re thrilled to be welcoming acclaimed journalist and novelist Fatima Bhutto for a visit to the Lighthouse garden.

Off the back of brilliant novels such as The Runaways and The Shadow of the Crescent Moon, Fatima Bhutto’s new book is an intimate memoir of grief, heartbreak, and what we owe the natural world – all learned from the dog who saved her life.

Hour of the Wolf is the story of how Fatima freed herself from the tight, dangerous coils of a man’s manipulative charm. It’s a tale that crosses continents, travels into myth, literature, astronomy and art, and explores Fatima’s own yearning for motherhood. By her side for the entire journey is Coco: a small, ferociously loyal Jack Russell terrier.

This event will be 30 mins followed by audience questions and signing. Please feel free to attend any or all of these depending on your capacity!

Fatima Bhutto is the author of the novels The Runaways and the Women’s Prize for Fiction-longlisted The Shadow of the Crescent Moon, the non-fiction New Kings of the World and Songs of Blood and Sword, which deals with her father’s murder and the Bhutto family's history in Pakistani politics. Bhutto’s journalism and essays have appeared in Granta, Zeteo, Guardian, and elsewhere.

Bhutto was born in Kabul, Afghanistan and grew up between Syria and Pakistan.
