How do we organise beyond identity politics and towards solidarities that last?
Using their experience of organising as part of Britain’s East and South East Asian Network, the authors of Beyond Belonging look at specific obstacles to community building in their shared history, the challenges ahead of us and how we might come together to tackle them.
We’re delighted to welcome one of the authors of Beyond Belonging, Mai-Anh Vũ Peterson, to introduce us to this groundbreaking work and the possibilities it presents toward lived, expansive networks of support.
This event will be 30 mins followed by audience questions and signing. Please feel free to attend any or all of these depending on your capacity!
Our speaker:
Mai-Anh Vũ Peterson is an Edinburgh-based writer, facilitator and community organiser, whose work engages with storytelling at the intersection of identity, migration, grief and community. Her work has been published by Futures in Draft, shado magazine, gal-dem and Bad Activist Collective. She has been active in community-building and organising spaces for several years, with a focus on East and Southeast Asian communities in the UK. Her recent book, Beyond Belonging, which was collectively written with two fellow organisers, examines how organisers can move past identity politics and anti-racism work that operates in isolation among different communities, towards sustainable action and solidarity.
