There have to be some silver linings to this rotten corona crisis and Makar To Makar is just that: A season of readings hosted and curated by the glorious Jackie Kay. Jackie, who is National Poet for Scotland, was inspired to curate an online festival to entertain and connect the public while providing paid work for writers and performers.

Beginning on Thursday May 14 at 7pm, Jackie will launch the weekly online readings, showcasing a line-up of established literary talent and emerging voices from Scotland and around the world.

The events will stream via the National Theatre of Scotland’s YouTube channel or directly through the series website and we’ll be sharing them on our social media too!

For those who didn’t already know of Jackie’s huge heart, her generosity and thoughtfulness carrying through so much of her work on and off the page, this is just another example of it. She’s not just championing writers and readers in tough times, she’s linking in indie bookshops and theatres so we can all be part of this very cool project.

If you enjoy what you hear on Makar2Makar you can buy the poets books here - we’ll be updating the list of books available as the names of performers are announced. For now we’re getting you started with some of Jackie’s own.

Please remember we’re a small indie operating on a skeleton staff against the backdrop of a pandemic (which slows down our whole distribution network!) so your orders may take a couple of weeks to arrive- thanks so much for your patience and support!
