Today we have Sharaiz Chaudhry with us to introduce the Revolutionary Reading Room!

The Revolutionary Reading Room started as a book club seeking to inspire revolutionary change through studying the works of revolutionaries from the Third World and minorities in the West. It aims to bring people together around shared principles and appreciate the vital role that Black and Brown people made, and continue to make, to transform the world.

We formed in London in March 2020 however, soon after our first meeting the country went into lockdown and we were forced to migrate online. Now, as things start to open up again, we are hoping to hold in-person meetings in Edinburgh and, potentially, also online meetings to cater for the online following we have developed.

We look to cover a range of topics and revolutionaries from different contexts and some of our previous readings include:

Reminiscences of the Cuban Revolutionary War by Che Guevara (new edition out in October 2021!), Women, Race & Class by Angela Davis, Revolutionary Suicide by Huey Newton and The End of Policing by Alex S. Vitale

Our next reading will be Ten Myths About Israel by Ilan Pappe and we will be meeting on 28 June at 6.30. Lighthouse are collaborating with us to raise awareness - and you can use the code 'REV-READING-ROOM' to get 10% off the latest title.

To keep up to date, you can follow us at @revolutionaryreadingroom on Instagram and @revreadingroom on Twitter, and we have reading lists and more available HERE!
