The Radical Book Fair is Scotland’s leading alternative political & literary festival; it was launched by Wole Soyinka in 1996 and has been running for over 20 years.
The 2019 Radical Book Fair will take place Thursday 14th - Sunday 17th November at the Assembly Roxy.
4 DAYS, 20 EVENTS, STALLS representing over 50 publishers, indie authors and artists - entirely organised by the booksellers at Lighthouse!
The RBF showcases a huge variety of publishers and speakers, exposing readers to new and diverse voices, and offering a real flavour of radical and independent publishing. The 2018 fair focused on (re)discovering and reclaiming our radical histories to arm ourselves to change the future.
The RBF is open to browse daily, it is free to visit and event places are either free, or by donation.
The venue is the Assembly Roxy on Roxburgh place, it is fully wheelchair accessible including the gender neutral toilets. Stim toys & a breakout space will be available. All events will have seating & speakers will use microphones.
We are happy to offer BSL interpretation for as many events as possible - if you would like to attend a particular event and need an interpreter please contact us as soon as possible after the program release. We cannot guarantee an interpreter if notified after November 1st, as it takes time to book & prep interpreters, but we’ll always do our best.
This fair is family friendly: Although we won’t have a creche there is a play area will have sofas, books, toys & staff assistance.
The bookshop’s Safe Space policy will apply at the Book Fair, you can read it HERE. Violent or oppressive language & behaviour will not be tolerated - including but not limited to racism, sexism, ablism, homophobia, transphobia, antisemitism & islamophobia. Details will also be posted at the venue.
