OPEN CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS Reclaiming Space: An Exhibition of Feminist Art
Deadline Midnight Friday 12th April
Lighthouse Books are looking for artists to participate in an exhibition to coincide with Feminist Book Fortnight.
Lighthouse Books is an independent community bookshop on the radical left, politically engaged and socially conscious. They celebrate diversity of thought and expression, championing voices from the margins.
This exhibition will inhabit the bold spaces and unexpected corners of this special bookshop, sitting aside the vibrant meaningful literary work that is showcased there everyday. It is curated by Kirsty Law.
The call is open to visual artists of any media who feel that their work resonates strongly with the theme.
This is an unpaid opportunity. Lighthouse Books can act as seller for the artist’s work, they will not take any commission. Artists will be responsible for the transportation of their artworks to and from the Bookshop on West Nicholson Street (Edinburgh’s South Side). Works should be ‘display ready’ (e.g. framed), with Lighthouse Books taking responsibility for installation costs. The bookshop can provide a small bursary to help with travel costs should these costs otherwise prohibit participation.
The chosen artists will be selected for the quality of their work, its relevance to the theme and it’s ability to work within the unusual exhibition space.
All artists will receive an email informing them of the outcome by 18th April.
Chosen artworks would need to be with the Bookshop, ready for installation by 28th April at the latest.
The opening party will take place on Thursday 2nd May and the exhibit will run until the 17th May.
